Adam Scott to Do Double Duty on 'Party Down,' 'Parks and Recreation'

03/06/2010 19:31 PM

Adam ScottMost people may not know who Adam Scott is, but there's a good chance they'd recognize his face, as he's been a reliable character actor for over 15 years. Scott's had small scene-stealing parts in movies like Art School Confidential, Knocked Up and Step Brothers, and he deftly balances comedy and character as the lead on the Starz comedy Party Down. In short, he's the definition of underrated, but it looks like the acclaim for Party Down may finally be bringing him the recognition he deserves.

With Party Down's second season set to premiere April 23, it was just announced that Scott has been added to the ever-growing cast of NBC's Parks and Recreation (which also just added Rob Lowe), starting with a few appearances this season and then leading into the next. The assumption was that, like Jane Lynch leaving for Glee, Scott would be exiting Party Down if it gets picked up for a third season. That would be a more serious blow than Lynch's exit, since Scott's character is the show's anchor. But, good news after all: Scott tells Movieline that he hopes to be able to do both shows, and also mentions that Party Down hasn't even been renewed for a third season yet. So this is potentially a win for everyone, especially Adam Scott fans.

Based on the comments many of you have written on this site, it seems that in general, fans are not enjoying the flash-sideways as much as the island story. Some have even gone as far as to say that the flash-sideways are not important, but what if they are?

Alice in Wonderland -- Not Exactly Wonderful

03/06/2010 12:34 PM

I really wanted to love this movie. Maybe I went in with expectations to high. Just the mere pairing of Tim Burton and Lewis Carroll's absurd fantasy land held so much potential. But there is nothing there beyond the pretty scenery. The story plays out as Alice wanders along her predictable path with nary a twist or turn, leaving nothing of interest to discuss after the movie is over.

Of course, as we've seen in the trailers, the movie looks fantastic, and the characters from the Alice in Wonderland story come to life in that dark yet whimsical Tim Burton style that draws audiences in. Kids who are old enough not to be frightened by perilous situations, mad characters and ferocious mythical creatures will likely enjoy the colorful and quirky adventure. The movie does contains several scenes that may be extremely frightening or unsettling to young children, though, so this is definitely one to preview if you have any concerns about your kids having future nightmares from Wonderland, or should I say, "Underland."
